A great white shark was filmed underwater in the Mediterranean Sea off the Strait of Sicily in June 2026 by diver Derk Remmers during a mission to remove abandoned fishing gear. The footage was captured as part of work organized by the Healthy Seas foundation and Ghost Diving. Experts note that Mediterranean great white populations remain poorly documented.

Authorities in Utsunomiya captured a wild black bear on Tuesday following four days of sightings across the city. All 94 public schools closed during the incident, with officials citing a possible second bear for continued closures on Wednesday. A separate bear sighting was reported in Iwaki, approximately 100 kilometers north.

Malcolm Phillips, 93, who managed Skircoat Lodge children's home in Halifax, was found to have committed sexual and physical offences against six children between 1976 and 1994 after a trial of facts. Linda Brunning, 67, was convicted of related offences from the 1980s and 1990s and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Phillips received an absolute discharge due to unfitness to stand trial.
