Framing Analysis
The Bank of Korea maintained its benchmark rate at 2.5 percent on May 28 for the eighth consecutive meeting, the first decision chaired by Governor Shin Hyun-song. South Korea recorded 1.7 percent GDP growth in Q1 2026 and 2.6 percent year-on-year CPI inflation in April 2026. The central bank also raised its 2026 forecasts for both inflation and GDP growth.
