Alnour Mohamed Ali and Mohammad Tajik were sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court to 27 months and two years respectively after pleading guilty to endangering lives at sea under the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025. The cases mark the first convictions under legislation that took effect in January and criminalizes piloting small boats that risk death or serious injury. Both men are foreign nationals who crossed from France or Belgium.
